Ederson Move Uncertain as Tielemans Set for Man Utd Medical

Manchester United are still considering signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson even as they prepare to welcome Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Tielemans is set for a medical on Tuesday after Aston Villa triggered his £35 million release clause, while Santos has already completed his medical ahead of a £50 million move from Chelsea.

Ederson's Failed Medical and Renegotiation

Ederson failed a medical at Manchester United last week due to a knee injury. The Red Devils had a £38.8 million deal in place with Atalanta since early June, but the transfer is now on hold. According to the Manchester Evening News, United are looking to renegotiate the deal for a lower fee, and the Brazilian could still join.

Tielemans and Santos Arrivals

Youri Tielemans has rarely been mentioned among United's midfield targets this summer, making his impending move a surprise. The Belgian suffered a hamstring injury during the World Cup warm-up before Belgium's 2-1 loss to Spain. Andrey Santos will sign a five-year contract with United, with an option for an additional 12 months. Former Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow is also expected to join as a free agent.

Midfield Reinforcements Needed

United manager Michael Carrick and director of football Jason Wilcox identified Ederson as a replacement for Casemiro, who left after his contract expired. Manuel Ugarte sustained a serious knee injury for Uruguay during the World Cup, leaving Kobbie Mainoo as the only available out-and-out midfielder in the senior squad. Mainoo was not part of the pre-season training group last week due to his involvement with England.

Ederson played twice for Brazil at the World Cup and said his move to Old Trafford was 'practically all sorted'. He had part of his medical in the United States before flying to the UK for final checks after Brazil's last-16 exit to Norway.
