Alex Engberg, from Wilmington, North Carolina, has been sharing her property-buying journey on social media, including the process of choosing new carpets. However, when she removed the existing green carpet, she discovered original hardwood floors in excellent condition beneath it.
In a TikTok video, she showed the carpet bundled in the middle of the room, surrounded by the uncovered wooden flooring. She described the finding as 'a dream come true', and viewers shared her enthusiasm. One commented, 'How does it feel to live my dreammmmm,' while another praised the renovation potential, saying, 'This place is gonna look like a dream.'
For those hoping to reveal similar hidden flooring, there is a simple way to check without tearing up all the carpet. Lift a corner of the carpet in an inconspicuous spot, such as inside a closet, or remove a heat register vent to inspect the layers beneath.
If solid wood at least three quarters of an inch thick is visible, it is likely original hardwood. Look for a consistent, solid grain pattern rather than the layered appearance of plywood or MDF, and check for any signs of moisture, black stains, or rotting.
