A British pizza dough manufacturer has collapsed into administration after more than three decades of trading. Millennium Dough Company, which specialised in wholesale artisan frozen pizza dough from its base in West London, entered administration on June 8, according to filings in The Gazette.
Company Background
Founded in 1992 and formerly known as Millennium Food Service, the company operated from Taunton Road in Greenford. It focused on using high-quality ingredients and traditional baking techniques, including long fermentation and craft flours, to cater to restaurants and food service companies. The business had earned excellent five-star reviews on Google, with customers praising its staff.
Financial Troubles
Despite generating £1.7 million in profits for the year ending October 2024, the company's debts to creditors nearly doubled over 12 months. By October 2024, creditors were owed £1.5 million within a year, compared to £751,052 in 2023. The company appointed Quantuma Advisory as administrators.
Companies typically enter administration when they cannot pay their debts or when liabilities exceed assets. The insolvency practitioner then works to rescue the business, restructure debts, or sell assets to maximise creditor payouts.
Industry Challenges
The hospitality and catering sector has seen several businesses enter administration recently due to volatile ingredient costs, fluctuating fuel prices, rising utility bills, and high commercial rents. In April, Soho Gourmet Group, a catering company that worked with TV productions like EastEnders and Dancing on Ice, fell into liquidation owing over £285,000. Around the same time, Aberdeen-based Foodstore Limited, trading as King Foods, collapsed into administration, resulting in 40 job losses and debts exceeding £1 million to banks and creditors.
Millennium Dough Company has not released a statement on its specific circumstances.
