UK diesel prices have reached a new record high, with average costs climbing to 199.18p per litre, according to analysis from MoneySuperMarket. This surpasses the previous record of 199.09p and is pushing annual fuel bills for van owners toward £1,965.
Record diesel costs hit van drivers
Some forecourts are already charging up to £2.38 per litre, with prices varying across the country. For the UK's 4.5 million van drivers travelling an average of 8,107 miles per year, paying £2.38 per litre would push annual fuel bills close to £1,965.
Alicia Hempsted, Van Insurance Expert at MoneySuperMarket, said rising fuel costs could have a massive impact on business, with profitability likely to take a knock.
Rising mileage adds to pressure
Van drivers are among the most affected by rising costs due to the higher number of miles they travel for work. Average mileage for van drivers has increased from 6,964 miles in 2022 to 8,018 in 2025, and has since risen to 8,107 miles.
This means road users face a double hit of rising fuel costs and increased travel. MoneySuperMarket experts have urged drivers to use a fuel cost calculator to monitor rising bills.
Tips for cutting fuel costs
Motorists can also check where the cheapest petrol stations are using data from the Government's FuelFinder scheme.
Alicia added: "Using tools such as the fuel cost calculator can help drivers better understand how changes in pump prices affect spending on fuel. Even small price differences between local petrol stations can add up over time, so comparing fuel prices before filling up is a simple but effective way to reduce costs."
