Stuart and Scarlette Douglas, the brother-and-sister duo behind Channel 4's Worst House on the Street, have shared the heartbreaking motivation behind one of their most memorable renovations. The pair were racing against time to complete a property transformation so that a homeowner's seriously ill father could see the finished home.
During filming, Stuart and Scarlette met newlyweds Ben and Millie, who were renovating a dilapidated house into their dream family home. Upon meeting Ben's father, the siblings learned he was seriously ill. 'We were trying to make sure, or help them get the renovation finished so that Ben's dad would be able to see it,' Stuart revealed exclusively to the Express.
Fortunately, Ben's father survived long enough to witness the completed renovation. 'When that renovation was finished and Ben's dad was able to be there and experience it, that was really, really special,' Stuart said. Scarlette added that the renovation took about a year and a half, and the show aired another 18 months later. 'He did make it. That was a really beautiful moment,' she said.
The Douglases are now launching a new social media initiative, Keys or Coffee, where one member of the public can win a brand new property in Bournemouth for the cost of a coffee (£3). The public will vote on design options via Instagram, creating what Scarlette calls 'the house social media built'. The winner will be announced on 19 April at the Ideal Home Show.
