The Point, a major leisure and entertainment venue in Sunderland city centre, has been put up for sale with a £1.5m price tag. Leisure property specialist Fleurets is marketing the freehold of the building on Holmeside.
Three venues under one roof
The building houses three established leisure venues: The Point, a 1,300-capacity live music and events space, plus Live Lounge and Glitter Ball, two high street bars with capacities of 800 and 500 people respectively. The 26,640 sq ft property occupies a prominent city centre position in one of Sunderland's most popular hospitality destinations.
Originally built in 1937 as the Art Deco Ritz Cinema, the building operated as a cinema for more than six decades before closing in April 1999. It was later transformed into a nightclub and live events venue, becoming a well-known fixture of Sunderland's leisure scene. In recent years it has been repurposed for live music and events, with the two bars accessible through a separate entrance on the Park Lane frontage.
Previous marketing attempt
Fleurets is the second estate agency to handle the sale, taking over from Bradley Hall, which first marketed the building in March 2025 with a £1.75m price tag, later reduced to £1.5m. The freehold is now being offered at £1.5m.
