A Greenock man says his flat has been infested with thousands of wasps, forcing him to abandon his bedroom and consider leaving his home altogether.
Infestation forces tenant from bedroom
Craig McDonald, 38, has been repeatedly stung by the insects, which have also attacked his two dogs and his cat in his top-floor home. The wasps began infesting his bedroom two weeks ago after getting through cracks in the ceiling, and he can no longer enter the room.
McDonald claims his landlord, Oak Tree Housing Association, has failed to deal with the wasp nest in the roof space or get rid of the insects. He said the situation is having a serious impact on his health and has left him worried about his pets.
Landlord response criticised
McDonald said he contacted Oak Tree, but they initially told him it couldn't be a wasps' nest because of the time of year. When pest control was eventually sent, he claims the operative asked him to help plug gaps while wearing protective gear, but it made no difference.
He also contacted environmental health but was told to get in touch with Oak Tree. McDonald said he has not had a decent sleep in ten days and is in agony from the stings.
Housing association responds
In response, Oak Tree Housing said: "We are aware of the issue raised by Mr McDonald and are dealing with him directly with a view to resolving the matter as quickly as possible. As this concerns an individual tenant and his home, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further on the details of the case."
