Stockport's SK1 postcode area, covering the town centre, has been named among the UK's latest property hotspots after house prices surged by 24.4 per cent in the past year. Homes there sold for an average of £234,415, the largest annual increase of any postcode area in Greater Manchester with 20 or more sales.

M6 (Claremont) is the next property hotspot in the region, with houses selling for £232,240 on average, up 20.5 per cent year-on-year. OL1 (Chadderton) follows with an 11.7 per cent rise, M12 (Ardwick) with 11.3 per cent, and WA15 (Altrincham) with 10.8 per cent.
Stockport's rise places it among the UK's top postcode areas, though the national hotspot is LL61 in Wales, covering Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Average prices there rose 26.3 per cent in the year to the end of July, reaching £293,901, the largest increase of any area with at least 50 sales. SY25 in Wales and WV2 in Wolverhampton follow with 25 per cent rises.
Top climbers and falls
The 10 Greater Manchester areas with the fastest rising prices are SK1 (24.4%), M6 (20.5%), OL1 (11.7%), M12 (11.3%), WA15 (10.8%), M21 (Chorlton-cum-Hardy, 9.9%), BL7 (Bolton, 7.8%), WN6 (Appley Bridge, 7.2%), M40 (Collyhurst, 7.1%), and OL9 (Chadderton, 6.9%).
By contrast, WN1 (Haigh) saw the largest drop, with average prices falling 15.9 per cent to £192,365 in the 12 months to the end of July. M1 (Piccadilly) fell 15.6 per cent, M15 (Hulme) 13.2 per cent, M5 (Ordsall) 11.9 per cent, and M3 (Manchester City Centre) 10.3 per cent.
