Sanctuary Housing has submitted plans to Liverpool City Council to demolish the former Arundel Park Residential and Nursing Home on Sefton Park Road and build a five-storey building with 36 homes. The care home, built in 1996, closed in December 2021 after Sanctuary Care said it was no longer financially viable to operate. Residents were relocated to Willow Gardens in Bootle or Prince Alfred homes in Liverpool.
Proposed development details
The new building would contain 25 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom apartments for social rent. A council planning report describes the site as a brownfield location and states: "Its redevelopment would represent an effective reuse of a brownfield site in a sustainable location, contributing to regeneration, addressing housing need, and improving the visual quality of the area."
The existing 2.5-storey T-shaped structure includes a prominent three-storey turret element at its southern elevation. The site features hardstanding areas, established vegetation, and mature trees. The proposal includes on-site car parking at the rear, cycle parking, lighting, seating, play provision, drainage, and refuse storage.
Funding and decision
Sanctuary Housing would receive funding support from Homes England if planning permission is granted. The Liverpool City Council planning committee will decide on the proposals at Liverpool Town Hall next Tuesday.
