Revised Plan for 45 New Homes in Airdrie Submitted to Council
Revised Plan for 45 New Homes in Airdrie Submitted

North Lanarkshire Council has received a planning application that could lead to the construction of 45 new homes in Airdrie. The application, submitted on behalf of JWR Holdings, seeks planning permission in principle for the houses on land off Dykehead Road, which is currently an empty field.

Revised Application After Refusal

A statement provided alongside the application notes that in May the council refused an application for 70 dwellings at the same site. This new application is a revised version of the previous one, with a smaller-scale development that also features more terraced and compact forms of housing.

Part of the statement reads: "This is a positive planning amendment because it supports more efficient use of land, improves housing choice and increases the opportunity to provide smaller, more attainable and potentially more affordable homes."

Addressing Council Concerns

The applicant's position is that the amended proposal is materially different from the refused scheme. The statement adds: "It is a reduced, more compact and more policy-responsive development which directly addresses the council's previous concerns regarding green belt impact, housing land policy, the power line corridor and placemaking."

The statement also claims that this development would deliver "much-needed" homes in a sustainable location and that the power line corridor should not be treated as a barrier to development.
