A retired physics teacher from Doncaster has won a £3 million coastal home in Cornwall after entering an Omaze draw for just £25. Jon Dexter, 66, now owns a four-bedroom property overlooking Porthcothan Bay, complete with £250,000 in cash.
Mr Dexter, who lived in Cornwall 40 years ago, said the win felt like a 'quantum leap in good fortune'. He initially thought the Omaze team at his door was a wine delivery. The house, set in the Cornwall National Landscape, comes mortgage-free with stamp duty and legal fees covered.
The property features a reverse-living layout with floor-to-ceiling windows, a terrace, and panoramic sea views. It includes four bedrooms, two with en suites, a main suite with a sunken bathtub, and a home office. Oak flooring, underfloor heating, and smart technology are also included.
Mr Dexter, who has three daughters aged 29 to 33, plans to spend Christmas in his new home. He said: 'The first thing I did was message the WhatsApp group chat to say: “Christmas sorted”.' He is considering renting, moving in, or selling the property.
The draw raised £5.2 million for FareShare, a food redistribution charity. Broadcaster James May praised the fundraising, saying 'millions of meals will now end up on the tables of people who really need them.'
