Eva Longoria has addressed speculation that she left the United States because of Donald Trump’s presidential election win, insisting her relocation was motivated by work. The 49-year-old actress and her family split their time between Spain and Mexico City, a decision she revealed was made nearly three years ago.
Appearing on The View: Behind the Table podcast, Longoria said: “I’ve been in Europe for almost three years. I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.” She described claims to the contrary as “divisive”.
The Desperate Housewives star, who endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign, also told Marie Claire that Hollywood had been “changing” long before the election, citing issues such as homelessness and taxes. She acknowledged her privilege in being able to move, adding: “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”
Longoria is set to star in a new CNN series Searching for Spain, following her 2023 show Searching for Mexico. She plans to continue her activism despite the election result, warning that if Trump keeps his promises, America “is going to be a scary place”.
