Prince William's Wealth Surpasses King Charles
For the first time, official figures confirm that Prince William, the future king, is wealthier than his father, King Charles. The Prince of Wales boasts a net worth of £1.2 billion through the Duchy of Cornwall, according to recently published accounts. In contrast, King Charles's personal fortune is estimated at £640 million, as listed in the Sunday Times Rich List, a rise of £30 million from the previous year.
Tax Contributions Disclosed
In a move towards greater transparency, both King Charles and Prince William have disclosed their private tax contributions. William paid £7.76 million in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25 and £8.34 million in 2023-24. The prince received a private income of £21.6 million from the Duchy of Cornwall in 2025-26.
Dartmoor Prison Rent Controversy
Prince William has decided to no longer personally profit from the £1.5 million annual rent generated by the derelict Dartmoor Prison. Starting from 2026-27, the funds will be redirected to a community renewal fund for the local area. The Duchy of Cornwall agreed a £37 million contract in 2022 to lease the prison to the Ministry of Justice for 25 years, but the facility has been vacant since July 2024 due to elevated radon levels.
William's private secretary, Ian Patrick, stated: "Prince William knows that for many people in Princetown, the prison has long been part of the fabric of the community. Its closure has created genuine uncertainty, not just about jobs and businesses, but about the future of the town itself. The duke felt strongly that, while those questions remain unanswered, the benefit of this income should remain in the community, helping local people shape that future."
Kensington Palace Staff and Diversity
Kensington Palace revealed that the number of staff employed by William and Kate's household has increased to 74, up from 68. Diversity statistics show that 14.9% of staff are from an ethnic minority background, rising from 13.2% the previous year, while 73% of staff are female and 27% male.
