Noel Gallagher is facing a slew of problems at his new £11.5 million north London home, including a leaky roof and rising damp. The 59-year-old Oasis guitarist bought the Grade II-listed seven-bedroom property last year.
Structural issues and planning documents
Gallagher – who raked in millions from his Oasis reunion tour last summer – is already coming up against issues like “structural movement”, according to Westminster council planning documents.
The five-level home was previously split into flats, before a former owner converted it back into one single home, The Mail reported.
Renovation plans
Gallagher is now looking to sort out the “water ingress from roof level”, “rising damp at lower levels”, “deterioration of roof covering” and “previous unsympathetic alterations”. The rocker has had to rip out fixtures and fittings from all of the rooms and is planning additions like a new gym, sauna, cinema room and basement bar.
He has been given permission for some of the renovations, but needs approval for actions like replacing the windows with double-glazed sash and changing the back extension's roof and doors. The Wonderwall star also wants an interlinking building to be turned into a one-bedroom guest suite.
Sustainable approach
“Construction waste will be minimised through careful deconstruction rather than demolition, allowing materials that cannot be reused on site to be separated and recycled where possible,” documents state. “The careful repair, reuse and upgrading of the existing building fabric represents the most sustainable approach to development, extending the life of the historic structure while reducing embodied carbon and construction waste.”
“Improvements to environmental performance will be achieved through conservation-style slimline double-glazed windows, improved draught-proofing, roof insulation, efficient building services and the use of durable, natural materials wherever possible.”
Architects' statement
His architects stated that any changes are necessary repairs rather than wholesale changes to the building. “The proposed works are limited to the repair, maintenance and like-for-like renewal of defective building fabric, together with the removal of later non-original internal elements and renewal of services using existing routes,” they wrote. “They do not involve the alteration of features of special architectural or historic interest, nor any change to the character or appearance of the listed building.”
Gallagher has been married twice. He lived with his first wife Meg Matthews in a house dubbed “Supernova Heights” in Belsize Park, north London, in ode to the iconic Oasis song Champagne Supernova. He divorced second wife Sara McDonald in 2023 after 12 years of marriage.
