Mid Dunbartonshire has been named Scotland's top retirement destination in a ranking of 632 constituencies across Great Britain by Legal and General. The constituency, situated just north of Glasgow, achieved an overall score of 55 out of 100.
How the ranking was calculated
Legal and General assessed areas based on factors including housing, healthcare, local communities, finances, green spaces, and amenities. Mid Dunbartonshire received particularly high marks in finances, scoring 87 out of 100, and in social and community engagement, with a rating of 79 out of 100.
The constituency encompasses many wards within the East Dunbartonshire council area.
Top spots within Mid Dunbartonshire
Legal and General highlighted Lennoxtown as an ideal retirement spot in Mid Dunbartonshire. Nestled just south of the Campsie Fells, the small town is home to roughly 4,300 residents and is known for its views and peaceful surroundings. The Campsie Fells dominate the landscape for scenic walks, with gentler paths and trails available for more leisurely strolls.
Lennoxtown offers a variety of eateries and cafés, including Cafe Lucy, fish and chip shop Olivias, and Indian takeaway Bhaji's, all in the town centre. The town sits a short drive from the M80 motorway, with regular bus services running to Glasgow and surrounding towns and villages.
Bearsden, another community in Mid Dunbartonshire, was also singled out as a top retirement destination. Located about six miles from Glasgow city centre, Bearsden is a leafy and affluent town with a population of around 28,000. It was identified as ideal for a suburban lifestyle, with a strong sense of community and an appealing property market. Bearsden offers an abundance of shops, as well as highly rated food and drink venues including Massimo, serving fresh Italian cuisine for more than a decade, and The Station.

Legal and General's second-best retirement location in Scotland is Stirling and Strathallan, with an overall score of 52 out of 100. East Renfrewshire and West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine followed closely, each achieving a rating of 51.
