Cricket Legend Michael Clarke's Luxury Sydney Mansion Fails to Sell at Target Price
Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke is facing difficulties in selling his palatial mansion located in the upmarket Sydney suburb of Vaucluse. The cricket legend originally purchased the sprawling five-bedroom property for approximately $13 million in 2021, and subsequently listed it for sale in November last year with an estimated price guide of around $20 million.
Market Adjustment Leads to Price Reduction
However, real estate agent Bill Malouf of Highland Double Bay has revealed that the home is now more likely to fetch around $18 million. 'There has been an adjustment,' Malouf told realestate.com.au, attributing the decline to challenging market conditions. 'The market is tough. It's ridiculous what's happening in the world, (with) fuel prices going through the roof,' he explained, blaming global events for impacting the real estate sector.
Luxury Property Features and Renovations
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom property spans an impressive 778 square metres and is situated in one of Sydney's most exclusive eastern suburbs. Since acquiring the home in 2021, the 44-year-old cricket icon has undertaken significant renovations to enhance its 'European-inspired' design. Real estate experts initially predicted the property could command well over $20 million, according to Domain.
The luxury resort-style residence features:
- Three levels with oversized living spaces
- An airy open-plan design
- A swimming pool and private formal dining room
- A grand entranceway
- First-floor kitchen and dining areas flowing onto an entertainment deck
- Second storey verandah and lounge area
- Main bedroom occupying an entire corner of the second floor, complete with walk-in dressing room, en-suite, and private balcony
- Additional highlights including a private cinema and study
Clarke's Recent Property Moves
This sale attempt comes shortly after Clarke purchased a magnificent six-bedroom mansion just streets away from his current property for $20 million. That double-brick, three-level concrete home boasts six bathrooms, multiple living areas, and parking for two cars, set behind a wide street frontage and manicured gardens. The property last sold in 2007 for $7 million and was initially guided at around $25 million last year before Clarke secured it via a private treaty deal.
Clarke previously sold his former matrimonial residence with ex-wife Kyly for $12 million. His new neighbours in the exclusive Vaucluse area include radio host Kyle Sandilands and wife Tegan, as well as former Westpac boss David Morgan and his wife, former federal minister Ros Kelly.
