Marlow Crowned UK's Best High Street: Average House Price Hits £720,850
Marlow named UK's best high street by Knight Frank

A picturesque market town in Buckinghamshire has been officially named as home to the finest high street in the United Kingdom, according to a prestigious new ranking from leading estate agents Knight Frank.

What Makes Marlow's High Street So Special?

Matt Davies, a partner at Knight Frank, highlighted the town's appeal, noting it attracts a slightly younger buyer base, largely driven by its outstanding educational institutions. These include grammar schools such as Sir William Borlase’s, which often draws families to the western side of the town.

The estate agents described the thoroughfare as both "charming and lively", a combination that has captured the attention of home-hunters seeking a location commutable to London, which is just 33 miles away.

Marlow's allure is not a new phenomenon. Its beauty has historically attracted notable residents, including English novelist Thomas Love Peacock, poet T.S. Eliot, and author Mary Shelley, who famously completed her masterpiece Frankenstein while living in the area.

Property Prices and Premium Dining

Securing a home in this desirable Thames-side town comes at a significant cost. Data from Rightmove shows that the overall average property price in Marlow last year was £720,850. For those seeking a detached home, the price tag was even steeper, averaging around £929,115 in the same period.

Beyond property, Marlow boasts an impressive culinary scene. It is home to several Michelin-starred restaurants, including establishments owned by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge. His pub, The Hand & Flowers, holds the unique distinction of being the only pub in the UK with two Michelin stars.

Another celebrated spot is The Coach, also holding a Michelin star. Recent visitor reviews praise its "delicious" food and "extraordinary" service, solidifying the town's reputation as a gastronomic destination.

A Riverside Haven with Lasting Appeal

Nestled on the banks of the River Thames and surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, Marlow offers more than just shopping and dining. Residents and visitors enjoy tranquil river walks, with the town conveniently positioned between Reading and Windsor for further exploration.

Knight Frank's analysis placed Clifton Village in Bristol in second place, but it was Marlow's blend of vibrant community, natural beauty, and premium amenities that ultimately secured the top spot as the UK's best high street.
