Manchester United have completed the signing of Swansea City goalkeeper Kit Margetson after the two clubs agreed a compensation package.
The Swans confirmed the transfer on Monday, with the 20-year-old Wales under-21 international heading to Old Trafford after spending five years in the club's academy. Swansea had been entitled to compensation for Margetson's development after the goalkeeper, who was out of contract this summer, joined the club at under-15 level.
Loan spell and scouting
Margetson leaves having never made a senior appearance for Swansea, although he was included in the first-team matchday squad for the Championship clash with Millwall towards the end of the 2024/25 season and regularly trained with the senior setup. The son of former Swansea head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson, he impressed during a loan spell with Connah's Quay Nomads last season, playing a key role as the Cymru Premier side secured qualification for European competition. He kept 10 clean sheets in 39 appearances across all competitions, performances that are understood to have caught the attention of Manchester United scouts.
Back in May, commentator Mark Allen claimed United's respected goalkeeping scout Tony Coton had attended Connah's Quay's match against The New Saints specifically to watch Margetson. Speaking on S4C's coverage, Allen said: "I'm going to tell you the truth, he told me he's watching Kit. It's great to see the Cymru Premier pulling in scouts from the biggest clubs in the world. He's competent in what he's doing. He's growing up, and every time I see him play, he's growing up in front of me."

Confirming the move in an official statement, Swansea said: "Swansea City goalkeeper Kit Margetson has joined Manchester United subject to the relevant approval, after the two clubs agreed a compensation package. The 20-year-old Wales Under-21 international has been with the Swans since under-15 level, with the club entitled to remuneration for the player's development. He links up with the Premier League Red Devils having spent last season on loan at Connah's Quay, playing an important part in helping them qualify for Europe. Margetson, son of Swansea's former head of goalkeeping Martyn, was included in the first-team matchday squad for a fixture against Millwall towards the end of the 2024-25 season, and was also a regular part of the wider senior squad.
