Roma have reportedly increased their asking price for midfielder Manu Kone to at least €100million (£86million), a move that could affect Manchester United's chances of signing the France international in a future transfer window.
United were credited with an interest in Kone during the summer transfer window as they looked to strengthen their midfield options. The club went on to sign three new midfielders, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba on permanent deals.
Roma's revised valuation
Kone's future was the subject of intense speculation over the summer, particularly after the 25-year-old impressed for France during the World Cup. Chelsea were also linked with the player in the closing stages of the window, especially after Enzo Fernandez completed a £125million switch to Manchester City.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have now increased the price tag placed on Kone's signature after previously rejecting a bid from Chelsea worth around €60million (£51.6m). The Serie A club would now demand at least €100million (£86million) to consider letting Kone leave in any future transfer window.
United's transfer plans
It remains to be seen whether United or any other club will attempt to sign Kone from Roma in January or next summer's transfer window. Chelsea seemingly showed the strongest interest in the midfielder, with Monaco's Lamine Camara also a target on deadline day.
Having signed three midfielders in the summer, United were also looking to bring in a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu before the window closed. Tyrell Malacia left United as a free agent at the end of last season, and the club did not sign a replacement, leaving Shaw and Dorgu as the only left-back options in the senior squad until January at least.
United have two weeks to wait before returning to Premier League action after the international break, with Tottenham Hotspur their opponents on October 10 at Old Trafford.
