Man United Eye World Cup Star Brian Brobbey After Stunning Display

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Brian Brobbey's situation at Sunderland following his stellar season in the Championship and impressive performances at the World Cup. The 24-year-old Dutch striker scored seven goals in 31 appearances for the Black Cats in 2025/26, earning a call-up to the Netherlands national team for the tournament.

Brobbey's World Cup Impact

Brobbey made a brief substitute appearance in the Netherlands' opening 2-2 draw with Japan before being handed his first start against Sweden. He wasted no time making an impact, scoring twice within the first 17 minutes to help his side to a 5-1 victory. His first goal came from a Cody Gakpo cross in the fifth minute, and his second from a Denzel Dumfries delivery in the 17th minute.

Interest from Premier League Clubs

Manchester United are among several top clubs monitoring Brobbey, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Aston Villa also expressing interest. However, Sunderland are reluctant to sell, having only signed Brobbey from Ajax for £21.6 million last summer. He is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2029, and club sources indicate they view him as a key part of their long-term plans, with talks of a new contract to reflect his importance.

United's Striker Search

United are looking to provide support for Benjamin Sesko next season and have drawn up a shortlist of around five strikers, including Club Brugge's Nicolo Tresoldi, Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen, and Como's Martin Baturina. Brobbey, however, appears settled at Sunderland and is looking forward to Europa League football in 2026/27, making a potential transfer complicated.
