Llandudno in North Wales has been crowned the best place to retire in the UK, according to research by Taking Care. The Victorian seaside resort beat Glossop, Tynemouth and Ilfracombe to secure first place in the rankings.
What the research examined
The research examined factors including life expectancy, house prices, care home costs, green spaces, and leisure facilities. With a population of just 19,700, the resort offers both social opportunities and peaceful retreats for retirees.
The town's two-mile promenade features Victorian terraces, impressive hotels, boutiques, eateries and galleries.
Residents' views
Ray, who moved to Llandudno almost 30 years ago, said: "Living here is like going back 50 years. You can go out for walks after dark."
Helen Parkes, another resident, acknowledged the town's limitations but added: "Living here, you do realise life's not all about spending."
Lowest-ranked location
In contrast, Edinburgh ranked lowest in the study with an average life expectancy of 79 years and care costs averaging almost £40,000 annually.
