The £120m The Forge development on the edge of Liverpool city centre will include the city's first rooftop running track and a new Sainsbury's supermarket, developers have confirmed.
The scheme, being built by Jarron Developments on a vacant plot at the junction of Freemasons Row and Gladstone Street in Vauxhall, will deliver more than 400 new homes across two blocks. The Sainsbury's deal comes a week after it was reported that the old Marble Hall pub building will be demolished to make way for the transformation.
Sainsbury's signs 15-year lease
The developer has agreed a 15-year lease with Sainsbury's, which will become the first major UK retailer to commit to space in the emerging Pumpfields neighbourhood. The supermarket will operate as a Sainsbury's Local.
Sainsbury's Head of Property Developments, Jonathan Arthur, said: "We're delighted to be bringing a brand-new Sainsbury's Local to The Forge and to be investing in the emerging Pumpfields area."
Complete lifestyle destination
Originally labelled The Metalworks and now rebranded as The Forge, the development has been marketed as a "complete lifestyle destination", combining city centre living with residential amenities. Plans include a gym, a retail unit, staff offices and a cinema, as well as Liverpool's first rooftop running track.
Jarron Developments said it is progressing plans for The Forge, with the scheme forming part of its wider commitment to the regeneration of Liverpool's brownfield sites and the delivery of new homes in the city.
Regeneration milestone
Development Director at Jarron Developments, Will Clarke, said: "Sainsbury's is an outstanding addition to The Forge and a significant milestone for the wider Pumpfields regeneration story."

The Forge will bring new homes and amenities to the area, with Sainsbury's expected to create jobs and serve the growing community as Pumpfields continues to develop.
