Liverpool are weighing up whether to make Ronald Araujo's loan switch permanent after an impressive start to his Anfield spell, while the club are also considering bringing midfielder Tyler Morton back to Merseyside.
Araujo impresses on loan
The 27-year-old Uruguay international accepted reduced wages to facilitate the move, with the Reds holding an option to buy for £47m. Araujo has shown his adaptability under Andoni Iraola, starting the campaign at centre-back before moving to right-back, excelling in both positions.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are already inclined to exercise the non-obligatory clause to secure Araujo permanently next summer. Should he maintain his current trajectory, £47m would constitute a bargain.
The player appears receptive to staying in England after reportedly purchasing a property close to the Reds' training complex for him, his wife and his two daughters. He is also understood to be receiving regular English tuition.
Morton return considered
Liverpool are believed to be weighing up the prospect of bringing back Wirral-born midfielder Tyler Morton. Having progressed through the Reds' academy system, Morton made his first-team bow under Jurgen Klopp in 2021 before loan stints at Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.
While Klopp held the youngster in high regard, Morton did not feature in a single Premier League match during Arne Slot's title-winning campaign and was allowed to depart for Lyon in the summer of 2025 for a move worth up to £15m.
The 23-year-old has since earned glowing praise in France and is drawing interest from the Reds and Juventus, according to Tutto Juve. The Serie A heavyweights are seeking an established young midfielder. Meanwhile, the Reds are said to be regretting Morton's departure and are giving serious thought to bringing him back.
Morton has featured 10 times so far this season for Lyon, who currently occupy second place in the Ligue 1 standings, two points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
Iraola's early challenges
Andoni Iraola has much to consider following a steady, if unremarkable, opening to his Liverpool tenure. The Reds find themselves sixth in the table after five matches, trailing early pacesetters Manchester City by six points.
City could face a substantial points deduction and be stripped of titles they pipped the Reds to after being found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. Meanwhile, Liverpool's hard-earned victory at Bournemouth indicated that Iraola has a strong platform from which to develop as he seeks to orchestrate a title bid and make his mark in the Champions League.
Several matters will be occupying his thoughts between now and the Reds' next fixture against City on October 11, including an imbalanced squad and how best to utilise Florian Wirtz, who is presently on international duty with Germany under Jurgen Klopp. Iraola will be hoping the 18 first-team players summoned for international duty all return without injury.
