Jürgen Klopp's former home on Merseyside's exclusive Millionaire's Row has finally been sold, nearly two years after he departed Liverpool. The luxury property, located on Formby's prestigious Victoria Road, was initially listed for £4.25 million in October 2024. The identity of the new owners remains undisclosed.
A Palatial Property
The detached mansion boasts an array of impressive amenities, including a swimming pool, two-storey gym, solarium, jacuzzi, sauna, and a cinema room. With six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and four reception rooms, the home sits within gated, manicured gardens. The grand entrance hall leads to an open-plan kitchen, dining, and family area, while the master suite features two dressing rooms, an en-suite bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the garden.
Additional highlights include a luxury spa room and a games room. When first listed, estate agent Berkeley Shaw described it as a "beautiful home tucked away in the prestigious area of Freshfield, set on a private plot with impressive gardens and secure gated access." Property website Rightmove reported it as one of the most viewed listings of 2024.
History of the Home
Klopp, 58, moved into the home in 2015 with his wife Ulla Sandrock and their children, after taking over as Liverpool manager. The family became part of the local Formby community, frequently dining at The Freshfield pub, enjoying takeaways from The Good Catch, and visiting restaurants Suay and Sorrento. Klopp was also spotted at Formby Cricket Club.
The property was originally built by a local developer and purchased by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in 2005. When Gerrard left for LA Galaxy in 2015, he sold the house to incoming Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. After Rodgers was sacked in October 2015, he kept the property and rented it to Klopp. In 2019, Liverpool FC bought the house as an investment and allowed Klopp to stay rent-free. Klopp's successor, Arne Slot, and his wife viewed the home but declined to move in.
Sale and Aftermath
The sale is believed to have been completed this month, with a sold sign appearing today. Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season and relocated to Majorca. The sale comes just days after the appointment of new Reds boss Andoni Iraola.
Formby remains a popular area for footballers and managers of Merseyside clubs. Former Everton player Duncan Ferguson still resides in the area, and current Everton defender Jarrod Branthwaite is a familiar face in the village.
