Carmarthenshire council has completed a new housing development at Parc Pendre in Kidwelly, delivering 16 energy-efficient council homes for local residents. The properties have been designed to meet a range of housing needs, according to the council.
The site comprises four one-bedroom homes, six two-bedroom homes, four three-bedroom homes, and two four-bedroom homes. Each property has been built with a focus on sustainability, featuring air source heat pumps, solar panels, and high levels of insulation to help minimise energy costs for residents.
Sustainable features and community benefits
The council says the properties form part of its ongoing commitment to providing “affordable, well-designed housing that supports strong and sustainable communities”. Carmarthenshire council’s cabinet member for homes, councillor Emlyn Schiavone, said: “Access to high-quality, affordable housing plays a vital role in improving health and well-being while helping to create thriving, sustainable communities.
“These new homes will provide safe and welcoming neighbourhoods where families can put down roots and take pride in where they live. They will also support the local economy by helping to attract and retain a skilled workforce.”
Residents share their experiences
Residents have already moved into some of the properties in Parc Pendre. One resident said: “This house is amazing and already feels a lot better compared to where I used to live. The solar panels and heating system are really good, cheap to run and easy to use. The move-in process was straightforward and everything was explained really well.”
Another said: “I was in temporary accommodation and wasn’t sure where I would end up. I was desperate to come here as I followed the homes being built. I was ecstatic when I was offered one. My health has improved greatly. I love the apartment and the garden. I feel so very lucky.”
