JT Leyland Limited, a haulage and logistics business based in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, has entered administration after more than 50 years in operation. The administrators confirmed that all 43 employees have been made redundant.
The company, which provided distribution, warehousing and storage services to customers across the UK and Europe, cited a period of challenging trading and rising costs leading to financial pressures as the reason for the decision. Its services included full and part-load distribution, pallet deliveries and same-day courier services.
Fleet and warehousing
JT Leyland operated a fleet of vehicles ranging from transit vans to 44-tonne articulated vehicles and more than 70,000 sq ft of warehousing space. A small number of employees have been retained on a consultancy basis to assist with winding down the company.
Administrator's statement
Raj Mittal, joint administrator of JT Leyland Limited and a partner at FRP, said: “JT Leyland was a well-established business in the logistics and haulage sector, having built up a strong presence from its base in Milnthorpe.
“Our focus is now on managing an orderly wind down of the company’s operations, supporting employees affected by the redundancies and working closely with key stakeholders to maximise value from the company’s assets for the benefit of creditors.”
Wider administration figures
According to the most recent official figures, 182 businesses entered administration in August, a 60% increase on August 2025. The average monthly number of administrations in the first eight months of 2026 was 36% higher than the 2025 monthly average.
The Gazette, the official public record of insolvencies, said this was driven by higher numbers between March and August 2026, when more than 250 connected companies in the real estate sector entered administration.
