The new Netflix series House of Guinness, created by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, premiered on September 25. The eight-episode period drama follows the Guinness family after the death of Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness in 1868, focusing on his children Arthur, Edward, and Anne as they transform the family business.
Despite the show's Irish setting, it was not filmed in Ireland. Instead, production took place in the North West of England, including Manchester, Liverpool, North Wales, and Yorkshire. Executive producer Karen Wilson explained that modern Dublin no longer resembles its 1868 appearance, prompting the decision to film elsewhere.
Key locations include Liverpool's Stanley Docks, which doubled as the Guinness brewery. The docks provided space for exterior shots of stables, yards, and interiors such as Rafferty's and Edward's offices. Croxteth Hall in Liverpool also featured as the Guinness family home, Iveagh House, and other interiors.
Steven Knight noted that the choice was practical, as few locations in Dublin retain their 19th-century look. He drew parallels to Peaky Blinders, which was filmed in Leeds and Bradford rather than Birmingham for similar reasons.
