A fierce overnight inferno has torn through one of Liverpool's most significant historic buildings, Woolton Hall, leaving the 18th-century manor house severely damaged.
Dramatic footage and images from the scene showed flames and thick, black smoke billowing high into the Merseyside sky as more than 40 firefighters from across the region launched a major operation to contain the blaze. The fire service confirmed they were first called to the scene on Woolton Street at approximately 10:45 PM on Monday night.
Major Emergency Response
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service deployed a substantial fleet to combat the flames, including six fire engines, an aerial appliance, a drone unit, and a high-volume pump. Crews worked tirelessly through the night, employing multiple jets and hose reels in a desperate attempt to bring the roaring fire under control.
A spokesperson for the service detailed the intensity of the operation, stating: "Firefighters were called to a well-developed fire within a derelict manor house. Crews are using six jets, two hose reel jets, and two aerial appliances to extinguish the fire."

The Grade II listed Woolton Hall, a cornerstone of the area's heritage, has stood empty for a number of years. Its loss represents a devastating blow to the local community and historians alike. The building, constructed in the 1700s, was a prominent feature of Woolton Village, one of Liverpool's most picturesque suburbs.
