Harry Wilson to Join Leeds on Free Transfer, Liverpool Miss Out on £3.23m
Harry Wilson to Leeds, Liverpool Miss £3.23m Sell-On Fee

Harry Wilson has reportedly decided to join Leeds United as a free agent when his Fulham contract expires, ending Liverpool's hopes of a £3.23m windfall from a sell-on clause. The Wales international came through the ranks at Anfield before moving to Fulham in 2021, initially on loan, then permanently for £12m. As part of that deal, Liverpool secured a 15% sell-on clause.

Wilson's Career at Fulham

During his time at Craven Cottage, the 29-year-old made 187 appearances for Marco Silva's side. He recently enjoyed his best campaign, scoring 10 Premier League goals and providing seven assists. This form sparked calls for a return to Liverpool, but instead he is set to join Daniel Farke's Leeds United.

Leeds United Agreement

According to The Athletic, Leeds have struck an agreement to bring Wilson in on a free transfer. He is expected to sign a long-term contract with an enhanced wage package at Elland Road, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. Several Premier League clubs were linked, but Wilson chose Leeds.

Financial Impact on Liverpool

Fulham had attempted to extend Wilson's contract, which would have allowed Liverpool to benefit from a future transfer. Transfermarkt values Wilson at £21.55m after his impressive season. Had Fulham secured that fee while he remained under contract, Liverpool would have received £3.23m. However, the sell-on clause will not be activated as Wilson leaves on a free transfer.

Previous Transfer Attempt

Leeds had tried to sign Wilson 12 months ago, but the deal collapsed on deadline day. LeedsLive reported that the Yorkshire club matched Fulham's asking price and Wilson agreed to join, but Fulham pulled out at the last moment. Despite the frustration, Wilson produced a standout season for Fulham.

Future Prospects

Wilson is expected to join Leeds when his contract expires later this month. He could be joined by former Liverpool target Julian Brandt, who has also been linked with a move to Elland Road.
