Harry and Meghan could pay £8,000 a month to rent UK home

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could pay up to £8,000 a month in rent for their new UK home, according to a property expert. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, landed at Birmingham Airport yesterday to begin their new life in Britain.

Family's Return to the UK

The family, who arrived on a private jet, are reportedly planning to stay in the UK for an extended period. This marks the first time Harry and Meghan have lived in Britain since stepping down as working royals in 2020 and relocating to Montecito, California. Although they remain members of the Royal Family, they are not working royals and will not reside in a royal residence.

Instead, the family will live in a private home, the location of which has not been disclosed for security reasons. Many believe the property could be in The Cotswolds.

Renting Instead of Buying

It has been reported that while the couple have enrolled their children in a British school, they plan to rent a home in the UK rather than buy one. They are keeping their mansion in Montecito, California.

Saif Derzi, founder of Property Buyers Today, told The Daily Express that renting will probably suit them better. She estimates the couple will spend thousands on rent a month, potentially up to £8,000 pcm.

Saif said: “Given the amount of travelling Harry and Meghan do and the possibility that their plans could change, I think renting is a much more realistic option than immediately purchasing a multi-million-pound property.”

“A high-end rental would give them the privacy and security they need, while allowing them to test out an area without making a long-term commitment. I’d expect their ideal property to sit in the £5m–£8m+ bracket if they were buying. Rental costs could reach up to £8,000 pcm.”

Property Preferences

The property expert said it is likely Harry and Meghan will be looking for a gated home with plenty of land, accommodation for staff, and luxuries they are used to in California, such as a pool and a gym.

Harry and Meghan have not commented on their UK home or their motive for moving back to Britain.
