440-Home Gee Cross Scheme Decision Due Next Week
Gee Cross 440-Home Plan Decision Next Week

The future of a 440-home development on green space near Gee Cross village will be decided by Tameside council's planning panel next week. The proposal, submitted by Sintra Property Developments Limited, would transform land south of Hyde into hundreds of new houses, split across two sites: Apethorn and Bowlacre.

Plans Include Public Spaces and Listed Farm Restoration

The development would include acres of public open spaces, parks, children's play facilities, and woodland trails. Additionally, the Grade II* Listed Apethorn Farm complex, currently on Historic England's At Risk register, would be restored and converted into four homes.

Community Opposition

Local residents have submitted 355 letters of objection to Tameside council. Concerns include overdevelopment, loss of green space, increased pollution, and worsening traffic congestion. The nearby Godley Green Garden Village, with 2,150 homes already planned, adds to fears of urban sprawl.

The proposal has been significantly reduced from an original 2016 plan for 935 homes. Planning documents describe the vision as creating an 'edge of countryside development with a unique sense of place,' integrating seamlessly into the landscape with high design quality.

The planning panel will meet at Droylsden's Guardsman Tony Downes House on June 24 to decide on the application.
