Tyson Fury's Neighbours Warn of Flooding Risk from Proposed Housing Development

Residents in an affluent Cheshire village, part of the fashionable 'Cheshire Triangle' area popular with footballers and soap stars, have raised serious concerns about a proposed housing development opposite the home of boxing champion Tyson Fury. Neighbours claim the project by GR Jones Property Ltd, which includes ten four-bedroom detached houses and ten apartments, poses a significant flooding threat to Fury's property and the surrounding lane near Manchester Airport.

Flooding Fears Escalate

More than ten formal letters of objection have been submitted against the planning application, including from the parish council and flood authority. One of Fury's next-door neighbours expressed grave concerns, stating: 'The houses either side of the proposed site already flood regularly. Previous attempts to rectify this problem have not been successful.'

The neighbour continued: 'Without the field and pond acting as a natural attenuation tank, this will worsen and the houses on the opposite side of the road will be in danger from flash floods.' Another objector argued that the development would increase existing flood risks, particularly with climate change intensifying rainfall patterns, contradicting the application's claim that flood risk elsewhere wouldn't be affected.

Aesthetic and Privacy Concerns

Local residents, including Fury's father John and other family members, have also criticised the visual impact of the proposed development. They describe the three-storey apartment block as an 'eyesore' that would tower over existing homes, blocking natural light and compromising privacy. One resident lamented: 'It will be a complete eyesore for everyone who lives on or uses the lane, replacing green space with a dense, urban-looking estate.'

Fury's Property History and Local Issues

Tyson Fury purchased his eight-bedroom property in December 2020, close to his brother Tommy Fury and girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague. Initially, he planned to demolish the dwelling and build a six-bedroom home with luxury amenities, but after conflicts with Cheshire East Council, he scaled back to extensions and a basement. However, the property has since fallen into disrepair, with recent images showing a caved-in roof and general neglect.

The area, featuring numerous homes valued at over £2 million, faces additional challenges from airport-related car parking businesses. Fury and his brothers were previously ordered to pay nearly £100,000 in business rates and court costs for operating a car park on their land. Locals have highlighted traffic problems on Moss Lane, citing crumbling roads, potholes, and lack of pavements and street lighting due to unauthorised airport parking.

Wildlife and Environmental Impact

Objectors have also pointed to potential damage to local wildlife, including protected species like Great Crested Newts, bats, and badgers. One resident noted: 'There has already been significant disruption to wildlife habitats in the vicinity with the constant extension of airport car parking facilities.' Fury himself faced planning hurdles earlier when bats were found roosting in his property's loft, and birds attracted to his pond and fruit trees posed hazards to nearby aircraft, requiring special licenses from Natural England.

The planning application continues to face strong opposition from the community, with residents urging authorities to consider the compounded risks of flooding, environmental damage, and quality of life issues before approval.
