Plans have been submitted to Gateshead Council to transform the former site of Tyneview Social Club in Pelaw into 10 supported living bungalows. The land, off Gosforth Terrace, has been vacant since the club closed in 2016 and was demolished in 2020 after a fire.
Proposed development details
The application, submitted by Leazes Homes and Oakley Homes, proposes nine one-bedroom bungalows and one two-bedroom staff bungalow to provide support for residents. The plans include 14 car parking spaces: nine private, three visitor, and two staff spaces.
Documents supplied to the council highlight the site's location in an established residential area with close access to local shops, services, community facilities, open space, and public transport.
Background and previous application
A previous application to redevelop the land was rejected in 2023. That plan proposed six four-bedroom houses but was refused because it did not meet space or size requirements and lacked sufficient information about landscaping and layout.
However, the council's report found that housing or residential schemes on the site were acceptable in principle. No decision has yet been made on the current application by either planners or the planning and development committee.
