The latest round of planning applications across Greater Manchester includes a proposal to convert the stables of Coronation Street star Julie Goodyear's former Heywood mansion into a seven-bedroom home. The application, which will be decided next week, is among several recent submissions to councils in the region.
Rochdale: Julie Goodyear's former mansion
The former home of Julie Goodyear, who played Bet Lynch on the cobbles for decades, has been at the centre of a planning furore. Earlier this year, building work started without planning permission and was halted by the council. Unfounded rumours suggested the £1.5m mansion at Primrose Hill Farm was to become an HMO for immigrants, leading to protests outside the Rochdale Road East site. At the time, no valid planning application had been submitted.
New plans for the stables would create a 'luxury' seven-bedroom home. According to council planning documents, the ground floor would include three en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, reception area, cinema room and a family bathroom.
Bolton: Pub conversion and HMO plan
A prominent Bolton pub and live music venue is set to be converted into 10 flats. Henighans Eat and Drink bar on Bury Road in Breightmet closed and was put up for sale around a year ago following a dip in trade. Applicant Sabana Ally is seeking planning permission to convert and extend the building, formerly known as the Bull's Head, into 10 single-occupancy, self-contained flats.
Separately, planning permission is being sought to convert a family home close to Horwich town centre into a six-bed HMO. The house on Brownlow Road would be changed by Manchester-based Together Homes Ltd. A planning statement says the property will 'provide high-quality shared accommodation'.
Bury: Restaurants planned in former church
Two new restaurants look set to open in a former Bury church building at 134 and 136 Rochdale Road in the town centre, currently occupied by the Kashmir Superstore. The shop is expected to stay open, with one of the restaurants taking over the storage space on the first floor above it.
No details have yet been published on the type of restaurants, but planning documents suggest food delivery services could be included for both. Proposed opening hours are between 11am and 11pm seven days a week, with deliveries and collections between 5pm and 10pm.
Manchester: 154 affordable homes in Miles Platting
Plans have been submitted for a residential development on land off Oldham Road and Varley Street in Miles Platting. The scheme, put forward by Jigsaw Homes North, would deliver up to 154 new homes, all of them affordable, with a mix of apartments and family housing. It includes homes for social rent and rent-to-buy, to help meet demand for affordable housing in the area.
Tameside: Stalybridge art gallery revamp
The Astley Cheetham Art Gallery in Stalybridge is set for a makeover. The Grade-II listed building has been temporarily closed to improve access, as part of a wider programme to regenerate Stalybridge's cultural quarter. Plans have now been tabled to renovate the interior, including refurbishment of the library and art gallery areas, new wall, floor and ceiling finishes, a new accessible toilet, and a platform lift from the basement to the first floor.
