The Ferrari Mondial, an iconic 1980s classic, can be bought for well under £30,000, making it one of the most accessible ways to own a Ferrari.
Ferrari is one of the most evocative car brands, with the Rosso Corsa bodywork and Prancing Horse badge stirring the souls of petrolheads worldwide. However, owning one has often seemed out of reach for anyone but the wealthy. The Mondial changes that, offering a classic Ferrari experience on a relative budget.
Practicality and Performance
Unlike many Ferraris, the Mondial has a 2+2 seating layout with rear seats, and both front and rear storage, offering around 300 litres of boot space. This makes it practical enough for a family day out.
The first-generation Mondial 8 features a 2.9-litre V8 engine producing 214hp, accelerating from 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 143mph. The Quicker Mondial T
The last-generation Mondial T is faster, fitted with a 3.4-litre longitudinal engine producing 300hp. It can reach 158mph and does 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds. However, buyers will need to spend more, with valuations holding around £45,000.
The Mondial features bold, horizontal air intakes similar to those later used on the Ferrari Testarossa, classic five-spoke alloy wheels, and pop-up headlights that give it an unmistakable 1980s feel.
While it may not be as iconic as the F40, the Mondial offers a chance to fulfil a childhood dream of owning a Ferrari at a more attainable price.
