A former NHS project manager has swapped her city flat for a caravan and now saves £2,500 a month by living on farmland for free in exchange for a few hours of work each week. Eva Outram, 28, quit her £38,000-a-year job after appearing on Channel 4's survival series Alone, where she lasted 23 days in the Canadian wilderness.
Eva, who previously lived in a two-bedroom flat in Leeds paying £1,300 a month, now shares a £4,800 caravan with her boyfriend Tom Park, 33, a stone mason. The couple live on farmland without accommodation costs, covering only £40 every few months for gas and an £85 weekly food shop. In return, they work between three and six hours a week, with tasks ranging from general maintenance to face painting.
Eva said the decision to leave the 'hamster wheel' of working to pay a mortgage came after her survival show experience. 'I realised I was living a life on the back of other people's expectations,' she explained. Tom had already been living in a caravan when they met, and Eva began renting out her flat in August 2024 to join him full-time.
The couple now save £2,500 a month and plan to eventually buy land to build their own home. Eva, who shares her lifestyle on social media, said van life gives her 'a total sense of freedom' and that she earns more than ever before through content creation and her outdoor business. 'I genuinely feel like I am living my dream life,' she added.
