Ewan McGregor has revealed that he sold his Los Angeles home for £5 million after moving to Scotland, partly to escape the constant demand for selfies from fans. The Star Wars actor, 48, admitted that the pressure of unwanted attention in London contributed to his decision to relocate.
In an interview on the Sunday Sitdown podcast, McGregor said he used to walk around London with his head down to avoid eye contact. He described selfies as “soulless” and expressed a preference for genuine interactions where fans would discuss his films.
McGregor, who grew up in Crieff, Perthshire, explained that he is always happy to talk about his work but finds the modern trend of selfies lacking in meaningful exchange. “You stand and you take the photograph and they’re happy and off they go. It’s a soulless thing. There’s no exchange of anything,” he said.
The actor now lives in Los Angeles but recently sold his property there for £5 million after moving back to Scotland. He noted that unwanted attention was one of several factors influencing his decision to leave London.
