Land that was once part of a factory site at Eurocentral could soon be transformed into a facility with more than 500 parking spaces and two outdoor padel courts, if plans are approved.
North Lanarkshire Council has received a planning application from Anadna Properties for the development at Parklands Avenue. The brownfield site has been vacant since the demolition of the Chungwa cathode ray tube factory in 2008.
Padel sport growing in popularity
Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played by more than 25 million people worldwide. The sport experienced a significant surge in popularity during the pandemic, largely due to the small size of the courts, which allows for a higher density of players. Many tennis clubs have converted their courts to padel to attract more participants.
The proposed development includes 509 parking spaces and two outdoor padel courts, aiming to meet local demand for both parking and recreational facilities.
Notification and public consultation
Two properties located in nearby Maxim Park have been notified of the planning application. Members of the public can view the full application and leave comments by visiting the North Lanarkshire Council website and searching for planning reference 26/00657/FUL.
The application is currently under consideration by the council. If approved, the development could bring new amenities to the area, providing both parking solutions and a modern sporting facility.
