Cardiff's Elgin House Set for Aparthotel Transformation
Elgin House Aparthotel Plans Submitted in Cardiff

Plans have been submitted to transform six floors of Elgin House, a prominent Cardiff building, into an aparthotel. Boyce Group Ltd has filed the application with Cardiff Council to redevelop floors one to six of the property on St Mary Street.

The application describes the aparthotel concept as combining the space and privacy of a residential apartment with the convenience and professional services of a traditional hotel. It would be managed as a single accommodation business offering short or transient stays.

Proposed Facilities and Benefits

The rooms would be serviced similar to a traditional hotel but with additional facilities for short stays, catering to visitors for leisure or longer business trips. The applicant states the proposal will deliver social benefits through high-quality specialist accommodation and economic benefits from jobs created and future occupiers' spending.

The plans include 19 one-bedroom studio flats, three one-bedroom apartments, and one one-bed flat. The mixture of studios and flats aims to provide customer choice, from small studios for overnight or weekend visits to larger options with modest kitchen facilities for longer stays.

Historic Building Details

Elgin House is a grade-II listed Victorian building constructed around 1890, occupying the corner of St Mary Street and Golate Street. It was originally built as a hotel for visitors to the city. The ground floor currently houses the Turkish restaurant Leszet, with no indication in the plans that this will change.
