Muddy Stilettos has released its rankings of the UK's best places to live for 2027, and two North East locations have made the cut: Corbridge in Northumberland and Jesmond in Newcastle.
Village praised for charm and amenities
Corbridge, which has a current average house price of £535,000, is described as 'one of those villages that delivers good living by the bucketload'. The lifestyle site adds: 'Perched on the River Tyne, its honey-stone streets are packed with excellent indies, buzzy cafés, restaurants and proper pubs, with hidden yards and little passageways adding to the charm.'
Jesmond is also highlighted, with experts declaring 'it's no wonder everyone wants a Jesmond postcode'. They enthuse: 'Jesmond’s long been one of Newcastle’s golden postcodes – leafy, lively and effortlessly cool. Just north of the city centre and walkable to both Newcastle and Northumbria universities, it blends urban buzz with a laid-back, villagey vibe that appeals to students, academics, families and professionals alike.'
House prices and highlights
House prices in Jesmond over the last year average out to £372,901. Muddy Stilettos champions Pets Corner as its 'best kept secret' and highlights places like Acaiety, Dabbawal and Tantara for food and drink.
While the North East has not been given its own dedicated section, both Corbridge and Jesmond feature in the 'best of the rest' list. Other North East locations such as Morpeth, Alnwick, Whickham and Alnmouth have received national attention in recent years.
