Online property platform Rightmove has identified the most affordable locations for first-time buyers across the UK, with several Scottish areas featuring prominently. Cheapest Scottish Hotspots for First-Time Buyers
According to data from properties available in May 2026, five Scottish locations made the list of cheapest first-time buyer hotspots. Kilmarnock in Ayrshire ranks third in the UK, with an average property price of £92,380. Located just 37 minutes by train from Glasgow, it offers easy commuting and access to Ayrshire's attractions.
Greenock in Inverclyde follows closely with an average price of £93,380. However, buyers should note an 11% year-on-year price growth, which could push prices higher. Other Scottish entries include Paisley (Renfrewshire) at £95,430, Irvine (Ayrshire) at £96,768, and Aberdeen at £97,002.
Most Expensive Areas and Price Growth Trends
Rightmove also analysed the most expensive first-time buyer hotspots outside London, with St. Albans in Hertfordshire topping the list at £401,352. No Scottish locations appeared in this list. However, Scotland featured in the fastest price growth rankings: Falkirk (Stirlingshire) ranked third UK-wide with 17% annual growth, while Inverness saw 11% and Airdrie (Lanarkshire) 8%. Conversely, Motherwell (Lanarkshire) recorded a -7.3% decline, with average prices at £108,458.
