Six children were injured when a car mounted the kerb and hit them outside the Belvedere Academy in Liverpool on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred on Belvidere Road near Princes Park at approximately 3.20pm.
Merseyside Police confirmed that officers, firefighters, and paramedics attended the scene. The driver, a woman in her 80s, was driving a yellow Peugeot. Witnesses reported the car mounting the kerb and colliding with a group of girls waiting for a bus.
The North West Ambulance Service treated eight people at the scene. Among the injured, two had critical injuries, three serious, and three minor. Six of the injured, aged 11 to 13, were taken to Alder Hey Hospital. A 17-year-old was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. The driver was treated at the scene.
Police stated that none of the injuries are life-threatening. Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson expressed hopes and prayers for the children and their families.
Belvedere Academy headteacher Peter Kennedy confirmed the accident, saying six students sustained injuries, some serious but not life-threatening. Emergency services responded quickly, and the students were taken to hospital for treatment.
