An Airbnb owner accused of hosting steamy sex parties at his Norfolk bungalow has lost a legal battle to keep a sauna and decking that neighbours claimed were used for 'debauchery'. Owen Chandler Harrod marketed his property in Ormesby St Margaret as a romantic getaway with a hot tub, but locals alleged the raised decking became a stage for outdoor sex sessions in full view of the community.
Harrod was refused retrospective planning permission by Great Yarmouth Borough Council last year after a whistleblower reported unauthorised building work. He appealed the decision, but the Planning Inspectorate dismissed the appeal following a site visit last month, noting no one was available to grant access. The inspector had warned in writing that a no-show would result in automatic dismissal under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
Neighbours complained of noise, litter, and even used condoms thrown into their gardens. Rosemary Vincent, 90, said: 'There is all sorts of debauchery there, which all the residents are aware of.' John Huxford, 80, added: 'I have seen people having sex on the decking and up to all sorts of mischief in the hot tub. It is just disgusting.'
Despite the controversy, the bungalow is still listed on Airbnb as a 'coastal getaway' with a hot tub, super-king bed, and 70-inch TV, described as a 'quiet relaxing location'. Harrod, who bought the property during the pandemic, said: 'I'm not aware of any problems with the Airbnb... I've had nothing but positive conversations with all my neighbours.' He may now be forced to remove the sauna, decking, and trellis fencing.
