Beak Fried Chicken, an award-winning restaurant on Smithdown Place, has closed its doors permanently. The venue is now up for sale with a leasehold price of £35,000 and a monthly rent of £2,000, according to a listing on Rightbiz.
The restaurant was co-owned by Ben Raywood, Sam McKee, and Natalie Grady. The group launched in January 2021, initially selling 50 burgers every Friday from Sam's mother's kitchen. Over the years, the business grew into one of the best in the North West.
Closure Decision
The team announced the closure on social media, stating: "Yes the firm how are we, sit down we've got some s*** news. We have made the difficult decision to close the Smithdown shop." The statement continued, recalling incidents such as a weed farm fire next door, hosting weddings and baby showers, and being pelted with fireworks. It expressed gratitude to staff and regulars, noting that the Crosby venue on College Road will remain open.
Sale Listing
The Smithdown location is now on Rightbiz, described as 'highly visible' due to its position opposite Penny Lane, attracting locals, tourists, and Beatles fans. The listing notes the high level of public footfall.
Previous Recognition
Last year, the restaurant was shortlisted for the Uber Eats Restaurant of the Year award in the North West. Ben Raywood, then 35, said: "I want to say a massive thanks to all the Beak heads who order week in and week out. I’m absolutely made up, our hard work has paid off." He added that they were three friends from Crosby seeking a change from corporate jobs.
