Amorim Eyes £56m Man Utd Star Martinez for AC Milan
Amorim wants £56m Man Utd star Martinez at AC Milan

Former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is keen to sign Lisandro Martinez for AC Milan, six months after leaving Old Trafford. Amorim took over at the Rossoneri earlier this month and plans a major recruitment drive this summer.

Amorim's Transfer Targets

Goncalo Ramos is reportedly in talks to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Italian giants. Amorim also wants to strengthen his defence, targeting compatriot Antonio Silva of Benfica and free agent John Stones, whose contract with Manchester City has expired. Reports in Italy suggest Milan will explore an ambitious move for United star Martinez, according to Tuttomercatoweb. Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello added that Amorim is 'crazy' about the former Ajax star, with contact made over a switch to Italy. Sporting CP's Goncalo Inacio is also a target.

Martinez's Situation at United

Martinez joined United in 2022 for £56 million and was first-choice centre-half alongside Harry Maguire under Michael Carrick last season. His current deal expires next summer, though United have an option to extend by 12 months.

Mason Mount Interest

Reports elsewhere claim Amorim is interested in signing another United star, Mason Mount. The former Chelsea star has struggled for form and fitness since his 2023 move but enjoyed his best spell under Amorim towards the end of the 2025-26 season, helping United reach the Europa League final against Tottenham. However, United are unaware of any discussions over Mount, and the midfielder has no intention of leaving Old Trafford. United have no plans to sell him this summer.

United's Midfield Plans

United are light on midfield options, with Kobbie Mainoo their only recognised central midfielder and Manuel Ugarte facing a long lay-off after a knee injury at the World Cup with Uruguay. United are set to sign Ederson from Atalanta in a deal expected to be confirmed in July, while they remain in talks to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Bournemouth's Alex Scott is also a target.
