A couple on A Place in the Sun have stunned viewers with their “cheeky” offer, securing a holiday home for well under their budget. Presenter Ben Hillman joined buyers Gary and Sandra to find their dream property on Spain’s Costa Calida. The couple, from Redditch near Birmingham, had a budget of £90,000 but found an ideal apartment for significantly less.
The Fifth Property Steals the Show
Professional artist Sandra and warehouse worker Gary, who had been married for 16 years when the episode originally aired in September 2024, were looking for a two-bedroom home in Mazarron, Murcia. In the repeat episode airing on Monday, June 29, the pair were blown away by the fifth and final property they were shown.
Ben explained: “It is two bedrooms, it's not two bathrooms this time. But, you've probably noticed a little staircase on the side, taking you to a roof terrace.” Gary replied: “I'm flabbergasted, it looks amazing. The surroundings are fantastic.”
Price Revelation Leaves Couple Speechless
When Ben revealed the price of the apartment was £61,500—almost £30,000 less than their budget—the house-hunters were even more stunned. Gary quipped: “Steady, what?! Ben, have you ever been kissed on telly?” The property expert laughed back: “I'm always up for firsts Gary! Bring it in.”
“Are you shocked?” Ben asked, as Sandra admitted: “Very shocked, I thought this was going to be over budget.” Seeing inside the property, Sandra said: “Me likey,” as Gary added: “It’s everything we’ve been looking for. It’s modern, it’s fantastic.”
A 'Cheeky' Offer Accepted
The couple described the property as perfect and quickly put in an offer. They first offered £58,000, slightly below the asking price, but were given a counteroffer of £59,211, which they accepted. Ben confirmed the apartment “stole the show.” As he congratulated them, Sandra said: “I feel really, really happy.”
