North Lanarkshire Council's planning committee has unanimously approved the construction of 75 new homes at a site in Gartcosh. The decision, which backed an application from Bellway Homes for housing at Cleek Avenue, is subject to a legal agreement regarding a financial contribution from the developer before the official notice is issued.
High-Quality Development
A report to the committee recommended approving what it described as a “high quality residential development” that would fit in with the surrounding area. The site lies within the Gartcosh and Glenboig Community Growth Area and forms part of a larger site that received planning permission in principle a decade ago, later updated.
Housing Mix and Affordable Units
The planned housing will range from three to five-bedroom houses, along with 12 affordable housing units comprising one-bedroom cottage flats and three-bedroom terraced houses. The development aims to meet local housing needs while maintaining design standards.
Public Consultation and Objections
During the consultation phase, 20 objections were received from the public, citing the short notice period for residents. However, the report noted that since this application follows on from existing planning permission in principle and adds specific details, all proper consultation procedures were followed.
The committee agreed to the recommendations without debate, granting permission subject to conditions. The decision marks a step forward for housing in the Gartcosh area, with construction expected to proceed once the legal agreement is finalized.
