Liverpool could be confronting another transfer complication this summer. The window closes on September 1 and the Reds are still working frantically to finalise a big-money move for PSG winger Bradley Barcola.
Andoni Iraola's main objective has been to strengthen Liverpool's attacking options, specifically finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah, while enhancing their forward line overall. Yet the Reds are now reportedly preparing for potential bids targeting two of their own midfielders, which could be a major blow.
These developments mean Liverpool's Basque head coach may have to refocus on reinforcing his engine room. This would undoubtedly represent a huge undertaking given that the club's hierarchy remains concentrated on strengthening the final third of the pitch.
Alexis Mac Allister interest
Liverpool are preparing for potential interest in Alexis Mac Allister this summer. Galatasaray have registered their desire to sign the 27-year-old, according to reports in Turkey.
That interest has thus far been communicated through intermediaries to establish a valuation and the Argentine's salary expectations, according to Yeni Asir. However, that is not the full picture.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester City have also identified the World Cup winner as a potential target as they seek to replace Rodri, who could be heading to Barcelona this summer. Nevertheless, the report emphasises that there has been "no contact or developments" regarding any deal to bring the midfielder to Manchester.
Mac Allister has been a consistent presence in the Reds' midfield since his switch from Brighton in 2023. Nevertheless, he has now moved into the final two years of his Anfield deal and endured a decline in form last season, which prompted speculation over a potential departure this summer.
Should he depart, Iraola would need to redirect his attention towards finding a replacement for the star, with the Reds presently depending on Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai as three of his senior midfield options.
Harvey Elliott, Trey Nyoni, Wataru Endo and Stefan Bajcetic also remain possibilities, though all bar Nyoni have similarly been linked with moves away this summer.
Curtis Jones latest
Sky Italia is also claiming that Curtis Jones is edging closer to a switch to Inter Milan. Inter have moved nearer to offloading midfielder Davide Frattesi to Lazio on loan, with the Rome outfit reportedly having struck a verbal agreement with the player, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The journalist states an £850,000 loan fee, with an £11m option to buy, has been arranged, before formal procedures are set to follow. Once that transaction is completed, he claims Inter will push forward with a bid for Jones.
As reported by the ECHO, Inter have renewed their interest in Jones and contacted the Reds regarding a deal worth £30m. The move comes after Liverpool rejected a £21m bid for the 25-year-old in June, as they were seeking a fee of £35m.
Jones' absence during Sunday's pre-season friendly against Monaco raised a few eyebrows, though Iraola was quick to clarify that it was down to a minor injury concern rather than any transfer activity.
He said: "Curtis has trained every day, but yesterday (Saturday) he finished with some issues in the hip, but nothing big. It didn't make any sense to risk him."
