Julian Alvarez Rejects Arsenal in Shock U-Turn Over Transfer
Julian Alvarez Rejects Arsenal in Shock U-Turn

Julian Alvarez has made a final decision over joining Arsenal this summer, in a shock U-turn that dashes the Gunners' hopes of signing the Argentine striker.

Arsenal's Dream Signing Slips Away

The Argentine striker is said to be Mikel Arteta's dream signing to improve the Gunners' attack. Interest dates back over a year, with Arteta reportedly weighing up a move for the World Cup winner last summer before opting for Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres' debut season in north London has been somewhat of a success. He scored important goals en route to the club winning the Premier League, but was overlooked in Arsenal's biggest games, including the Champions League final.

Alvarez's Preference Revealed

Alvarez is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens in just a week's time, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also keen. Atletico Madrid are desperate to keep hold of their star forward and have publicly vented their frustration at media reports surrounding their player's future in light of Barca's interest.

It did appear that Alvarez exiting Atletico was a foregone conclusion. But not anymore. Spanish outlet Cadena SER reports that Alvarez has no interest in joining Arsenal and PSG. He only has eyes for Barcelona and is currently most likely to stay with Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid Stand Firm

Alvarez is happy to remain in the Spanish capital as he will not push for an exit. Atletico are not open to talks with Barcelona, meaning there are currently no discussions ongoing and, as it stands, the player will stay put.

This development represents a significant setback for Arsenal, who were hopeful of securing a top-tier striker to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
