Man Utd face Rashford headache as Barcelona option nears expiry

Manchester United are facing a significant transfer headache as the deadline for Barcelona to make Marcus Rashford's loan move permanent approaches. The option to sign the forward for £26million expires on June 15, but it now appears almost certain that Barcelona will not activate it.

Barcelona's change of plans

After signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a £69.3million deal, Barcelona have filled the role Rashford played last season. Gordon will compete with Rashford for a spot on England's left wing, with Rashford winning the first audition in a sharp 45-minute performance against New Zealand on Saturday.

Rashford's advice to Gordon

Following the match, Gordon revealed that Rashford had been giving him advice about the Barcelona squad and tips on where to live in the city. Despite this, Barcelona could still attempt to bring Rashford back next season, but on their terms rather than United's. Reports suggest the Catalan club may seek another loan move or try to sign the 28-year-old for around half the £26million option.

United's stance

Manchester United have so far insisted they will not renegotiate the option. However, when the clause expires next week, they may be forced back to the negotiating table. Rashford appears to have no future at Old Trafford, and United will hope the forward has a strong World Cup in North America to attract other clubs, with Bayern Munich and Arsenal among those linked.

Rashford is expected to return to Carrington around three weeks after England's World Cup exit, but his long-term future remains uncertain.
